British Airways/Hong Kong Independent Advice


Your Employer (BA) has asked us to provide you with independent legal advice on the effect of the letter that you have recently been handed. Harrison Clark Rickerbys is a UK based Top 100 law firm which has a large team specialising in Employment Law. We have experience of working with clients in China and South East Asia.

We understand that your local base is being closed by BA and we are very sorry to hear this. We have had no formal or informal involvement in the background circumstances leading up to this event.

Please be aware that we are one of a number of UK based law firms who provide legal services to BA in the UK. As stated above, we have had no involvement in this particular matter and are therefore able to provide you with independent legal advice on any English law aspects of your proposed agreement with BA if you are happy to receive it. You do not have to receive the advice from us. Please see point 3 below.

How we will communicate with you

Our job is to make sure that you fully understand and are comfortable with the terms and effect of the agreement that you be might signing in English law. In order to provide you with this advice we will:

• Provide you with a confidential advice note explaining the key aspects of the agreement;

• Provide you with additional, confidential telephone advice to discuss your agreement if you require it, at a time to suit you;

• If you are happy to sign the agreement, we will formally confirm that we have provided you with independent legal advice and return your signed documents to BA on your behalf.

What you need to do next

1. Decide if you are happy to appoint us to advise you on the terms set out above. For the avoidance of doubt, we will not charge you for our advice but will pass the cost of providing it directly on to BA.

3. If you wish to use alternative lawyers, please notify us at and we will be happy to refer you to firms in the UK and/or Hong Kong. You must receive independent legal advice from someone qualified and insured to provide it if you wish to enter into the agreement with BA. You are of course, free to seek your own lawyers.
